What are Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations?
Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR) are federal regulations that require fuel producers and importers to reduce the carbon intensity of their fuels. They create a credit market where low-carbon fuel providers — including EV charging — can generate and sell credits.
How do Clean Fuel Regulations relate to EV charging?
Under the CFR, electricity used to charge electric vehicles qualifies as a low-carbon fuel. This generates carbon credits that have monetary value. DashSharing participates in this credit market and shares a portion of the credit value with homeowners as cash earnings per kWh.
Can I earn carbon credits by charging my EV at home in Canada?
Indirectly, yes. Through the DashSharing program, homeowners earn cash that is funded by the carbon credits generated under Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations by home EV charging. DashSharing handles the credit registration and passes earnings back to members.
Is the DashSharing program government-backed?
The earnings model is enabled by Canada's federal Clean Fuel Regulations, which is a government regulatory framework. DashSharing is a private company that operates within this framework. The program itself is not a government grant or subsidy.
How is DashSharing different from a regular EV charger?
A regular Level 2 charger only charges your car. A DashSharing charger does the same but also tracks every kWh delivered and pays you cash for each one, funded by Canada's Clean Fuel Regulations carbon credit market.
Is DashSharing worth it?
For Canadian EV owners who drive regularly, DashSharing can generate $200–$1,000 per year in passive income from charging they would already be doing at home. The refundable deposit is returned after 2,500 kWh, and there are no monthly fees, making the risk very low.
How does DashSharing compare to selling electricity back to the grid?
DashSharing earns revenue from Canada's carbon credit market rather than selling electricity to the grid. Members do not need a bi-directional charger or a vehicle-to-grid capable EV. Any EV with a J1772 or NACS port qualifies.
Can I use any Level 2 charger with DashSharing?
No. The DashSharing program requires the specific DashSharing Smart Charger, which tracks kWh and connects to the DashSharing network. Standard third-party Level 2 chargers are not eligible for the program.
