Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about the DashSharing Smart Charger, our two ownership models, and participating in our sustainable, growing charging network.

About DashSharing

What is DashSharing?
DashSharing is building a connected ecosystem for electric vehicle charging. We provide a smart Level 2 charger designed to create growing value for owners through a dynamic "Charger More, Earn More" program. Whether you choose our Deposit Model or Direct Purchase, your earnings increase automatically as your charger delivers more energy, rewarding your contribution to a collaborative, user-powered network that supports broader EV adoption and sustainability goals.

How does the DashSharing model work?
When you purchase, install, and activate a DashSharing Smart Charger, you choose the ownership path that fits your goals. Every charger tracks all energy delivered, enabling two key benefits:

  • Growing Base Earnings: You earn a guaranteed per-kilowatt-hour (kWh) rate that starts at either $0.03/kWh or $0.05/kWh, based on your chosen model. For every 5,000 kWh your charger delivers (from personal or optional public use), your rate increases by $0.01/kWh, up to a top rate of $0.10/kWh. This applies for the lifetime of your charger.

  • Cost Recovery (Option 1 Only): Owners who select the Deposit Model are eligible to have their full $450 deposit refunded after the charger delivers its first 2,500 kWh.

  • Optional Sharing: Any owner can choose to list their charger on the public network to provide community access and earn additional session fees on top of their Base Earnings.

Becoming an Owner & Value Creation

What are the two ownership options?
DashSharing offers two distinct ways to own a Smart Charger, allowing you to choose the model that best suits your budget and starting earnings preference. Both models benefit from the "Charger More, Earn More" program, where your rate increases automatically every 5,000 kWh, up to $0.10/kWh.

Feature Option 1: Deposit Model Option 2: Direct Purchase
Upfront Cost $450 deposit $599 purchase
Refund Full refund after 2,500 kWh delivered No refund
Starting Base Earnings Rate $0.03/kWh $0.05/kWh
Earnings Growth +$0.01/kWh every 5,000 kWh, up to $0.10/kWh +$0.01/kWh every 5,000 kWh, up to $0.10/kWh
Best For Low upfront commitment, full cost recovery Maximum long-term earnings, higher starting rate

What is the initial cost?
Your upfront cost depends on the ownership path you select:

  • Option 1: A $450 deposit (fully refunded after 2,500 kWh delivered).

  • Option 2: A $599 purchase (no refund, higher starting Base Earnings rate).

You may also have installation costs, which vary based on your electrical setup and whether you choose DIY or professional installation.

How does cost recovery work?
Cost recovery applies only to Option 1 (Deposit Model). After your charger has delivered a cumulative total of 2,500 kWh of energy—from any combination of personal and optional public use—your full $450 deposit is eligible to be refunded to you.

Option 2 (Direct Purchase) does not include a cost recovery feature. Instead, you benefit from a premium starting Base Earnings rate from day one, which then grows with the "Charger More, Earn More" program.

How do Base Earnings work?
For every kilowatt-hour (kWh) delivered by your validated charger, you earn a guaranteed Base Earnings rate. Your rate is not fixed; it grows with your charger's activity.

  • Start: Your initial rate is tied to the ownership model you select at purchase: $0.03/kWh (Option 1) or $0.05/kWh (Option 2) .

  • Grow: For every cumulative 5,000 kWh your charger delivers, your rate permanently increases by $0.01/kWh.

  • Maximize: This growth continues until you reach the top rate of $0.10/kWh for all energy delivered thereafter.

This base rate applies to all energy delivered, whether you are charging your own vehicle or, if you choose, public users. This mechanism is connected to carbon credit programs that support sustainable energy initiatives. Please note that the program's structure is subject to change based on government policy and carbon credit market values; however, your accumulated tier and corresponding rate are honored for the lifetime of your charger.

Can I just use the charger privately?
Yes. Upon activation, your charger defaults to private mode for your personal use. You will still accrue Base Earnings (and rate increases) for every kWh you use privately and, if you selected Option 1, every kWh counts toward your 2,500 kWh refund milestone.

Do I have to share my charger with the public?
No. Public sharing is completely optional for both ownership models. You can use the charger solely for your personal vehicle. Choosing to share it publicly is a separate setting you can enable at any time to increase your earnings and support the community network.

If I share publicly, how is pricing set?
For public (shared) sessions, DashSharing suggests competitive pricing for your area based on local market data. You earn this public session fee in addition to your growing Base Earnings rate for the energy delivered. DashSharing retains a small portion of the public session fee to cover payment processing, platform maintenance, and support.

How much can I earn?
Your earnings depend on your ownership model, your charger's total lifetime throughput, and whether you choose to share publicly.

  • All Owners Benefit from Growth: Your Base Earnings per kWh start at your model's rate and increase automatically. For example, an Option 2 owner charging 10,000 kWh would see their rate grow from $0.05/kWh to $0.07/kWh over that period, substantially increasing earnings.

  • Option 1 Owners: Start at $0.03/kWh, recover your full $450 deposit at the 2,500 kWh milestone, and see your rate climb toward $0.10/kWh as you continue charging.

  • Option 2 Owners: Start at $0.05/kWh with no refund milestone—higher earnings from day one, which also grow toward $0.10/kWh.

All owners who optionally share publicly earn additional revenue from public session fees. Total earnings vary based on your location, your charger's availability, and local demand.

Can I control when my charger is available to the public?
Yes, completely. If you choose to share publicly, you have full control through the Host dashboard. You can set weekly schedules, block times exclusively for personal use, or go private at any time. You remain in complete control.

Can I switch ownership models after purchase?
No. The ownership model (Option 1 or Option 2) is selected at the time of purchase and is tied to that specific charger. You cannot convert a Deposit Model charger to a Direct Purchase model, or vice versa.

Installation & Setup

What's included with my charger purchase?
Every DashSharing Smart Charger includes:

  • Level 2 charging unit

  • Mounting hardware

  • 25-foot charging cable with J1772 connector

  • Tesla adapter

  • Two RFID cards for access control

  • Access to the DashCharger app for activation and management

Can I install the charger myself?
If you are experienced and comfortable with electrical work and local codes, you may follow our detailed installation guide. However, we strongly recommend hiring a licensed electrician to ensure safety, code compliance, and proper performance.

Do you provide installation services?
We do not perform installations directly, but we can connect you with certified electricians in your area who are familiar with EV charger installations. Contact our support team at support@dashsharing.ca for referrals.

What are the electrical requirements?
You will need a dedicated 240V circuit with a 40-50 amp breaker, installed according to all local electrical codes. The charger uses a NEMA 14-50 plug or can be hardwired by a licensed electrician.

Using the Network & Technology

How do I activate and manage my charger?
After installation, download the DashCharger app, create an account, and follow the in-app setup to activate your charger by entering its unique device ID. This connects it to the network for automatic usage tracking, Base Earnings accrual and tier progression, and—if applicable—refund milestone tracking.

What if my WiFi goes offline?
A continuous internet connection is required for the charger to report usage data to the network. This data is necessary for tracking Base Earnings, tier progression, and, for Option 1 owners, cost recovery progress. If WiFi is disconnected, data cannot be synced until connectivity is restored, though basic charging functions may remain operational.

Can I monitor usage remotely?
Yes. The DashCharger app and web dashboard allow you to monitor your charger's live status, track total energy delivered (kWh), view your current Base Earnings rate and progress toward the next $0.01/kWh increase, view your Base Earnings balance, and—for Option 1 owners—see your progress toward the 2,500 kWh refund milestone.

What vehicles are compatible?
Our chargers use the standard J1772 connector, which is compatible with all electric vehicles sold in North America. Tesla owners can use the included adapter.

Are the chargers weatherproof?
Yes. All DashSharing Smart Chargers are NEMA Type 4 rated for outdoor use and are designed to withstand rain, snow, dust, and temperature variations.

Support & Policies

What kind of support do you provide?
We offer customer support for pre-purchase questions, installation guidance, technical troubleshooting, and general assistance. Contact us via:

  • Email: support@dashsharing.ca

  • In-App Help: Available in the DashCharger app dashboard

Are there any ongoing fees?
There are no monthly subscription fees. DashSharing retains a small, transparent portion of the public session fee only when you choose to host publicly. This fee covers payment processing, platform maintenance, and support. Base Earnings, tier progression, and the cost recovery refund (Option 1) are not subject to any fees.

Can I stop sharing my charger publicly?
Yes. You can disable public sharing at any time through your dashboard with no penalties or fees. Your charger will immediately revert to private mode, continuing to track energy for Base Earnings, tier progression, and—if applicable—refund progress.

What happens if I move or want to sell my charger?
Chargers are registered to a specific owner account. If you move, you can deactivate the charger from your account. The device can be transferred to a new owner, who would create their own account and reactivate it. Please contact support to facilitate a transfer. Note that the charger's accumulated lifetime kWh—and therefore its current Base Earnings tier—is tied to the device and will transfer to the new owner.

What about taxes?
You are responsible for reporting any earnings (Base Earnings and public session fees) according to your local tax regulations. DashSharing provides detailed monthly and annual reports of your earnings and charging activity for your records.
